MoU Signed for Enhanced Access to AYUSH Products Nationwide
In a significant step towards digitalizing India’s traditional healthcare systems, the Ministry of Ayush has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zepto Limited. This partnership aims to provide structured online access to AYUSH medicines and wellness products across the country, fostering digital discovery while maintaining quality compliance and consumer trust in traditional healthcare offerings.
During a virtual address, Union Ayush Minister Shri Prataprao Jadhav highlighted the crucial role of innovation-driven Indian startups in enhancing access to reliable wellness products. He emphasized that collaborations with reputable digital platforms like Zepto can help unite India’s rich AYUSH heritage with modern, transparent, and user-friendly distribution methods available nationwide.
Aligning Tradition with Technology
The Minister noted that this collaboration is in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of integrating India’s traditional knowledge systems into modern digital frameworks. He pointed out that such initiatives not only empower consumers to make informed choices but also create new market opportunities for AYUSH manufacturers without compromising on quality, safety, or regulatory standards.
The MoU was formalized in a ceremony attended by Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush. The signing was executed by Shri Anurag Sharma, Chairman of the Ayush Export Promotion Council (AYUSHEXCIL), and Shri Kaivalya Vohra, Co-Founder and CEO of Zepto.
Empowering Manufacturers and Consumers
In his remarks, Shri Anurag Sharma stressed that this partnership will establish a well-structured pathway for AYUSH manufacturers, particularly small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), to engage with digital consumers. AYUSHEXCIL plans to facilitate this by identifying qualified manufacturers meeting established quality and regulatory standards, thus enabling broader market access while safeguarding authenticity.
Moreover, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha reaffirmed that the Ministry prioritizes product quality, compliance, and public trust. He elaborated that this collaboration is designed to bolster quality assurance mechanisms, promote the AYUSH Quality Mark, and ensure the dissemination of accurate, science-backed information regarding AYUSH practices.
Dedicated AYUSH Storefront and Future Initiatives
According to Shri Kaivalya Vohra, Zepto’s collaboration will feature a dedicated AYUSH storefront, enabling consumers to find verified AYUSH products with increased clarity and confidence. The focus will be on transparent sourcing, compliance, and providing a seamless digital shopping experience.
Under the terms of the MoU, AYUSHEXCIL will recommend eligible AYUSH manufacturers and monitor educational content for regulatory compliance. Meanwhile, Zepto will enhance product discovery through its exclusive AYUSH storefront. The partnership also entails joint consumer awareness campaigns, promoting verified information and responsible usage of AYUSH products.
Implications for the AYUSH Sector
This initiative is poised to empower AYUSH entrepreneurs to tap into India’s expanding digital marketplace, ensuring that consumers have access to trustworthy, quality-assured products. The MoU aligns with the Ministry of Ayush’s broader goal of positioning AYUSH as a global health and wellness system while supporting the Government’s initiatives focused on Digital India, Ease of Doing Business, and Make in India.
The Ayush Export Promotion Council (AYUSHEXCIL), established under the Ministry of Ayush with the backing of the Ministry of Commerce, aims to oversee the export of products related to Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa, and Unani systems, addressing trade issues specific to these sectors.
