Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Skills Development and Entrepreneurship, Electronics and IT, will speak tomorrow in Bangalore at a session of Digital India Dialogues on the recently revised for IT hardware.

The meeting will be attended by stakeholders of the technological ecosystem including experts, representatives of sector associations and startups. The goal of the meeting will be to stimulate the development of advanced processors, intellectual property (IP) and embedded systems. These consultations are in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s consultative approach to the legislative and political process. The Minister will arrive in Bangalore in the morning and participate in a media interaction which will be followed by consultations.

Through the provision of financial incentives, the government seeks to encourage the localization of IT hardware components and sub-assemblies. The scheme covers laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers and ultra-small form factor devices. In doing so, the government aims to catalyze India’s domestic IT hardware manufacturing ecosystem, thereby creating Indian champions in the IT hardware industry.

In May, the government approved the PLI 2.0 scheme for IT hardware with an outlay of Rs 17,000 crore, more than doubling the budget for the scheme which was first authorized in 2021 to incentivize and boost domestic manufacturing by attracting large investments in the value chain. After implementation, a cap will be set on the maximum incentives available to participating companies.

The scheme is expected to lead to a total output of around ₹ 3.35 lakh crore, carry an additional investment of ₹ 2,430 crore in electronics manufacturing and is expected to generate 75,000 additional direct jobs.
