Modi and Ramgoolam Strengthen India-Mauritius Ties at AI Summit
In a significant diplomatic meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India welcomed Mauritius’ Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam at the India AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi today. This marks Ramgoolam’s second official visit to India during his current term, following a State Visit in September 2025. The meeting comes on the heels of a recent phone conversation between the two leaders on February 9, 2026.
During their discussion, Modi and Ramgoolam reviewed the progress made under the Enhanced Strategic Partnership, which encompasses various sectors including trade, investment, maritime security, health, education, and digital cooperation. With an increasing focus on emerging technologies, they talked about potential collaboration in the realms of Artificial Intelligence and innovation. Their aim is to foster inclusive and sustainable development in both nations.
Additionally, the leaders assessed the deployment of the Special Economic Package that India has extended to support Mauritius’ development objectives. Modi noted that Mauritius serves as a ‘role model’ within India’s development partnership framework, symbolizing mutual trust and a shared commitment to progress between the two countries.
Both Prime Ministers emphasized the long-standing significance of their partnership, framed within India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and Neighbourhood First policy. They highlighted how this collaboration contributes to mutual prosperity and reinforces the priorities of the Global South.
