Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs Participates in Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs (MoPA) has taken an active role in the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) – 2025 campaign, which ran from September 17 to October 2, 2025. This initiative, aimed at fostering cleanliness and hygiene, involved participation from various ministries and departments across the Government of India. The campaign not only focused on promoting awareness among officials and staff but also included a series of engaging activities designed to instill a lasting commitment to cleanliness.
Inauguration and Pledge
On the first day of the campaign, Secretary of MoPA, Shri Nikunja Bihari Dhal, led the Swachhata Pledge for all ministry officers and officials. He emphasized the importance of making cleanliness a continuous practice rather than a temporary effort. Dr. Satya Prakash, the Additional Secretary, outlined a comprehensive action plan that included various activities aimed at enhancing cleanliness within the ministry. These activities comprised special cleanliness drives, inspections by senior officers, and the introduction of the Swachh Air initiative, which involved providing indoor plants to improve the office environment. Additionally, the ministry organized employee engagement activities, such as a Rangoli-making competition, and health check-ups for Safai Mitras at the Parliament House Medical Centre. The campaign concluded with a ceremony to honor the contributions of Safai Mitras, recognizing their vital role in maintaining cleanliness.
Community Engagement and Activities
On September 25, the MoPA organized a significant event titled “Ek Ghanta – Ek Din – Ek Saath Shramdaan” at Jain Happy School in New Delhi. This initiative was led by Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, who encouraged participants to integrate cleanliness into their daily lives. During the event, he administered the Swachhata Pledge to officers, school management, and students, fostering a collective commitment to cleanliness. Notable figures such as Shri Rajkumar Jain, Chairman, and Ms. Shalini Misra, Principal, actively participated in the event. The campaign also included a tree-planting activity under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Abhiyan,” symbolizing a commitment to environmental sustainability alongside cleanliness efforts.
Closing Ceremony and Recognition
As the SHS–2025 campaign drew to a close, the Ministry held a Closing Ceremony chaired by Dr. Satya Prakash. This event celebrated the dedication of Safai Mitras, who were recognized for their essential services. Prizes were awarded to winners of the Rangoli-making competition, highlighting the creative engagement of participants. In his address, Dr. Prakash encouraged attendees to extend their commitment to cleanliness beyond the campaign period, advocating for a year-round practice of hygiene and cleanliness. He stressed the significance of “inner Swachhata,” which encompasses self-discipline and positive behavior, asserting that true cleanliness begins with individual responsibility.
Commitment to Cleanliness
Through these initiatives, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs reaffirmed its dedication to the vision of a Swachh Bharat (Clean India). The campaign aimed to cultivate a culture of cleanliness, hygiene, and civic responsibility among officials and the community. By actively engaging in these activities, MoPA demonstrated its commitment to the nationwide campaign, promoting awareness and encouraging a collective effort towards a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
