Ministry of Labour & Employment Signs MoU with Rapido in the Presence of Union

The Ministry of Labour & Employment and Rapido have taken a significant step towards enhancing employment opportunities in the logistics sector by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi. This partnership aims to strengthen employment linkages through the National Career Service (NCS) portal, which currently connects millions of job seekers and employers across India. The MoU was signed in the presence of key government officials, including Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State Sushri Shobha Karandlaje.
Strengthening Employment Linkages
The signing of the MoU marks a pivotal moment in the collaboration between the Ministry of Labour & Employment and Rapido. Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the importance of the National Career Service portal, which serves as a dynamic platform for job seekers and employers. With over 1.75 crore active job seekers and more than 40 lakh registered employers, the NCS is crucial for workforce mobilization. The Minister noted that the portal is continuously evolving and is integrated with various platforms, including My Bharat, eShram, and SIDH, enhancing its reach and effectiveness.
Dr. Mandaviya expressed optimism about the collaboration with Rapido, highlighting the company’s commitment to creating 50 lakh livelihood opportunities on the NCS platform within the next one to two years. He reiterated the government’s vision of making the NCS a comprehensive solution for employment, skilling, and counseling, capable of facilitating both domestic and international job placements.
Focus on Inclusivity and Women Empowerment
Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, the Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, praised the partnership for its focus on womenโs employment, specifically targeting the creation of 5 lakh jobs for women. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal of promoting gender inclusivity in the workforce. The collaboration with Rapido is seen as a significant step towards addressing the employment needs of diverse groups, particularly women and youth.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Labour & Employment highlighted the importance of this MoU in the context of a rapidly changing job market. She noted that the collaboration reflects the Ministry’s commitment to an inclusive and innovative approach to employment facilitation. The focus on gender inclusivity was particularly commended, showcasing the government’s dedication to creating equitable job opportunities.
Implementation and Future Prospects
Mr. Pavan Guntupalli, Co-Founder of Rapido, expressed gratitude for the collaboration and emphasized the potential for scaling up employment opportunities through this partnership. He mentioned the โPink Rapidoโ initiative, which is specifically designed to empower women in the workforce. Guntupalli conveyed his enthusiasm for the partnership with the NCS and the Ministry of Labour, looking forward to a successful collaboration that benefits job seekers across the country.
The MoU outlines several key points for implementation. Rapido will regularly post verified job opportunities for driving bike taxis, autos, and cabs on the NCS portal. An API-based integration will facilitate real-time job postings and application tracking for users. The partnership also aims to promote inclusive hiring practices, particularly for youth, women, and those seeking flexible work arrangements. Additionally, it is expected to support structured onboarding, digital empowerment, and awareness of worker welfare schemes.
Commitment to Employment Outcomes
The Ministry of Labour & Employment remains dedicated to improving employment outcomes across various sectors through the NCS portal. This collaboration with Rapido is part of a broader strategy to engage with private sector employers and platforms, fostering a holistic approach to job facilitation. By bridging the gap between job seekers and private sector employment, the Ministry aims to create an enabling ecosystem for India’s diverse workforce, ensuring that opportunities are accessible to all.
