Ministry of Culture to Host Cultural Performances for 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
The Union Ministry of Culture is set to host a grand celebration to honor the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, scheduled for October 31, 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will serve as the Chief Guest for this momentous occasion, which aims to embody the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” and pay homage to Patel’s significant contributions to India’s unity and integrity. The event will feature a series of cultural performances, including the release of a commemorative coin and postal stamp by the Prime Minister.

The highlight of the celebrations will be a spectacular dance production titled “Loh Purush Namastubhyam.” This performance, curated by the Sangeet Natak Akademi and the West Zone Cultural Centre, will showcase the talents of over 800 artists from various parts of India. Under the direction of Dr. Sandhya Purecha, the presentation will illustrate the theme of “Ashta Tatva Ekatva,” which emphasizes unity in diversity through major Indian classical dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Odissi. The lyrical narration, crafted by Ashok Chakradhar, will be complemented by music from renowned artists Bickram Ghosh and Ricky Kej, while Santosh Nair will handle the choreography. The visual elements, including costumes, will be designed by Sandhya Raman, creating a rich tapestry of India’s artistic heritage.
Musical Ensemble Celebrating Unity
Another significant feature of the event will be a presentation focusing on Indian musical instruments, themed “Vividata Mein Ekta – Unity in Diversity.” Musicians from across the nation will unite to form a grand ensemble, showcasing traditional and folk instruments from nearly every Indian state. Conducted by Shri Lokesh Anand and Shri Pradyut Mukherjee, this performance aims to symbolize the cultural richness and unity of India. The event will culminate with a rendition of “Vande Mataram,” celebrating the 150th anniversary of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s iconic patriotic song, further emphasizing the theme of national integration.
Theatrical Tribute to Sardar Patel
On the eve of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, a theatrical presentation titled “Loh Purush” will depict the life and legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Written by Shri Asif Ali Hyder and directed by Shri Chittaranjan Tripathy, the play will highlight key moments from Patel’s life, including his early years, legal career, and pivotal role in India’s independence movement. The production aims to capture the essence of Patel’s leadership and vision, conveying the enduring message that India’s strength lies in its unity and collective resolve. Through powerful storytelling and evocative performances, the play will serve as a fitting tribute to one of India’s most revered leaders.
Significance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, observed annually on October 31, commemorates the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and reinforces the importance of national integration, peace, and unity. Established in 2014, this day honors Patel’s legacy as the architect of modern India. During the 2015 observance, Prime Minister Modi launched the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative, aimed at strengthening cultural bonds among citizens across the country.
