Ministry of Ayush to Host Summit on National Ayush Mission and Capacity Building in States

The Ministry of Ayush is gearing up for a significant two-day Departmental Summit titled โ€œNational Ayush Mission and Capacity Building in States,โ€ scheduled for September 3-4, 2025, at the All India Institute of Ayurveda in New Delhi. Chaired by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, the Union Minister of State for Ayush and Health & Family Welfare, the summit aims to foster discussions on state-specific feedback and inputs to enhance the National Ayush Mission (NAM). This initiative is part of a broader effort to integrate traditional healthcare systems into India’s healthcare framework.

Objectives of the Summit

The upcoming summit serves as a platform for comprehensive discussions on feedback received from State and Union Territory officials, including grassroots-level insights. This participatory approach is designed to bolster the National Ayush Mission, which promotes holistic healthcare through the integration of various traditional systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa, and Homeopathy. By engaging stakeholders at all levels, the summit aims to strengthen the mission’s implementation and expand its reach across the country.

This event marks the culmination of a series of six thematic summits initiated by the Prime Minister during the 4th Chief Secretariesโ€™ Conference in 2025. These summits have been organized throughout the year, bringing together central and state officials for focused discussions on key themes. The inclusion of junior officers in these deliberations underscores the commitment to enhancing capacity building within the Ayush sector.

Thematic Areas and Preparatory Activities

In alignment with the vision set forth by NITI Aayog, the Ministry of Ayush has identified six thematic areas for the summit. The โ€œNational Ayush Mission and Capacity Building in Statesโ€ is the final theme, with the Ministry of Ayush acting as the nodal ministry, supported by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Extensive preparatory activities have been undertaken, including orientation sessions for all States and Union Territories and the dissemination of a Concept Note dated May 6, 2025.

To facilitate focused discussions, six thematic sub-groups have been established, each addressing critical aspects of the mission. These groups consist of representatives from 6-7 States or Union Territories, allowing for targeted dialogue on various themes such as financial management, organizational structure, integration with modern healthcare services, quality assurance, and IT-enabled digital services. Each sub-theme is coordinated by two Nodal States to ensure effective collaboration and deliberation.

Participation and Expert Contributions

The summit is expected to attract senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and Commissioners of Ayush from across India. Notable experts and panellists with extensive credentials in Ayurveda, health policy, and digital governance have been invited to contribute to the discussions. Among the distinguished guests are Dr. V.K. Paul from NITI Aayog, Ayurvedic scholar J L N Shastri, and Dr. V. M. Katoch, former Director General of ICMR.

The carefully outlined themes and corresponding groupings of States and Union Territories cover a wide range of topics, from financial management to quality assurance and IT services. This structured approach aims to ensure that each sub-theme receives the attention it deserves, fostering productive discussions that can lead to actionable outcomes.

Commitment to Ayush Systems

This Departmental Summit reinforces the Government of Indiaโ€™s commitment to integrating Ayush systems into the national healthcare framework. By enhancing accessibility, quality, and efficiency, the summit aims to realize the full potential of the National Ayush Mission. The focus on capacity building at the State and Union Territory levels is crucial for the successful implementation of Ayush systems, ensuring that they play a vital role in the countryโ€™s healthcare architecture.
