Minister Promotes Technology Transfer for Industrial Growth in India
Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, recently emphasized the urgent need to expedite technology transfer as part of India’s push for enhanced industrial engagement. During a review meeting in Tirupati, he highlighted the integral role of stronger industry partnerships and swift application of laboratory research in uplifting India’s goal for an Atmanirbhar Bharat, or self-reliant India.
The meeting brought together directors from various CSIR laboratories located in Chennai and Hyderabad to discuss their recent scientific achievements. The focus was on ensuring these accomplishments aligned with the national priorities identified by the Indian government, which is committed to bolstering India’s scientific and innovation framework.
Showcasing Achievements
Key presentations were made by directors from several CSIR institutes, including the Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI), the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), and others. Each director shared insights into their respective laboratories’ notable advancements and the future directions of their research endeavors.
Innovative Technological Solutions
Dr. K. Ramesha, Director of CSIR-CECRI, discussed innovative developments in electrochemical technologies, focusing on energy storage solutions such as sodium-ion batteries, initiatives in COâ‚‚ capture, and clean hydrogen production. Meanwhile, Dr. Prakash from NGRI highlighted critical geophysical explorations in Ladakh, including geothermal research and the mapping of essential minerals.
Other notable presentations included those from Dr. P. Thanikaivelan of CSIR-CLRI, who stressed the laboratory’s advancements in developing the indigenous ‘Bha’ footwear sizing system and touch-sensitive gloves for the Indian Air Force. Dr. N. Anandavalli from CSIR-SERC elaborated on efforts related to structural health monitoring and disaster-resilient construction technologies.

Dr. Vinay Nandicoori of CSIR-CCMB shared achievements in genomics and biotechnology, while Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy from CSIR-IICT emphasized the laboratory’s work in pharmaceuticals and new-generation refrigerants.
