Minister Piyush Goyal Strengthens India-Spain Economic Ties

On July 13, 2026, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, embarked on the Spain segment of his official trip aimed at enhancing the economic partnership between India and Spain. This visit is particularly significant as the two nations celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations and declare 2026 as the India-Spain Dual Year of Culture, Tourism, and Artificial Intelligence. The activities during this visit primarily focus on expanding collaboration in trade, investment, innovation, and industry.

Throughout the day, Minister Goyal engaged in high-level meetings with influential Spanish government officials, business leaders, and investment agencies. He notably addressed the India-Spain Business Forum, where he emphasized India’s growing economic landscape and the opportunities it presents to global investors.

Bilateral Meetings with Spanish Leadership

Among the meetings, Goyal had a significant discussion with H.E. Mr. Carlos Cuerpo Caballero, the First Vice-President of the Government of Spain and Minister of Economy, Trade and Business. Their dialogue centered on enhancing trade and investment relations, promoting innovation-driven growth, and exploring new economic collaboration areas. Specific topics included improving market access, creating resilient supply chains, and establishing commercial partnerships, especially in sectors like renewable energy, green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, and digital technologies.

The two leaders also discussed the India-EU Free Trade Agreement and looked forward to the upcoming session of the India-Spain Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation scheduled for later this year.

Promoting Industrial Cooperation

Another vital meeting took place with H.E. Mr. Jordi Hereu Boher, Minister of Industry and Tourism of Spain. Their talks emphasized enhancing industrial cooperation, supporting technology partnerships, and furthering collaboration in clean energy, mobility, and tourism. Both sides acknowledged the significance of the C-295 program as a leading example of industrial collaboration under India’s “Make in India” initiative.

India-Spain Business Forum

A highlight of Minister Goyal’s visit was the India-Spain Business Forum, co-organized by various chambers of commerce from both countries. The forum served as a platform for senior government officials and industry leaders to explore new economic opportunities.

Ms. Inmaculada Riera, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, and other prominent figures opened the forum, welcoming attendees. The keynote address from Goyal focused on India’s position as one of the fastest-growing economies, inviting Spanish firms to invest across various sectors such as manufacturing, and infrastructure.

Strengthening Investment Flows

Moreover, Goyal met with senior officials from ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, focusing on bolstering investment flows and promoting business linkages between India and Spain. The goal remains clear: encourage increased participation from Spanish enterprises in India’s growth trajectory.

Ending the day, Goyal connected with members of the Indian business delegation, discussing potential opportunities for investment and partnerships. His visit marked a reaffirmation of both countries’ commitment to deepening their strategic economic relationship through enhanced collaboration in trade, investment, and innovation.

This visit sets a promising foundation for expanding India-Spain economic cooperation, presenting new opportunities for mutual growth in the years to come.
