Microsoft Unveils Edge Game Assist for Gamers

Microsoft has launched a new feature called Edge Game Assist, designed specifically for PC gamers. Announced on Friday, this in-game browser aims to enhance the gaming experience by providing game-centric features. Currently available in preview mode, Edge Game Assist allows players to access game hints, guides, and other resources without leaving their game. This custom version of the Edge browser is now accessible to Windows 11 users with Microsoft Edge Beta 132. With its focus on seamless integration, Edge Game Assist promises to revolutionize how gamers interact with online resources while playing.

Edge Game Assist Launched

Edge Game Assist can be accessed through the Game Bar overlay on Windows. This feature allows users to browse the web without interrupting their gaming session. According to Microsoft, a staggering 88 percent of PC players utilize a web browser while gaming. They often seek help, track progress, connect with friends, or view media. Traditionally, these actions required players to pull out their phones or switch to the desktop, disrupting their gameplay. Microsoft aims to eliminate this inconvenience with Game Assist.

When activated, Game Assist overlays the game currently being played. It is designed to be game-aware, suggesting tips and guides tailored to the specific game. This means players can receive relevant information without having to search for it manually. Additionally, Game Assist will remember browsing data from both PC and mobile versions of Edge. This includes favorites, history, cookies, and form fills. The in-game browser also offers quick access to popular social services like Discord, Twitch, and Spotify, all conveniently located in a sidebar.

Game Assist Features

Edge Game Assist functions as a widget within the Game Bar, allowing users to pin it above their game. This feature enables players to watch gameplay guide videos while actively playing. To access the Game Bar, users simply press Win+G. This brings up various in-game widgets, including Xbox Social for connecting with friends, tracking achievements, capturing screenshots, and adjusting audio settings. Players can also monitor game performance and access services like Spotify and Teams.

One of the standout features of Game Assist is its ability to be resized and repositioned on the screen. This flexibility allows users to customize their gaming setup according to their preferences. The in-game browser also includes game-aware features, displaying a unique set of gaming tabs and sidebar apps. When a user opens a new tab, it highlights helpful resources, such as tips and hints specific to their game. Currently, the preview feature is localized in English and supports a selection of popular PC games, including Baldur’s Gate 3, Diablo IV, Fortnite, and more. Microsoft plans to optimize Game Assist based on player feedback and will continue to add tips and guides for additional games over time.

How to Access Game Assist

Edge Game Assist has been released as an opt-in public preview. To try out this innovative browser, users must ensure that their Windows and Game Bar are up to date. Additionally, they need to be using the Beta or Preview channel of Microsoft Edge. Setting Edge Beta as the default browser is also a requirement. To install the Game Assist widget, users should navigate to Edge, click on Settings and more (โ€œโ€ฆโ€) > Settings, and search for Game Assist in the search box. Once found, they can select the option to install the widget.

With Edge Game Assist, Microsoft is taking a significant step towards enhancing the gaming experience for PC players. By integrating web browsing directly into the gaming environment, players can access valuable resources without interruption. As the feature continues to evolve, it promises to become an essential tool for gamers looking to improve their skills and connect with others in the gaming community.
