Meet the Visionary Behind Nagarro, the $1 Billion German IT Company
BENGALURU: Manas Human, cofounder of Nagarro, has transitioned from his roots in Dibrugarh, Assam, to the forefront of the digital engineering sector. His journey took him from classrooms in Delhi to the trading floor of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, where he played a pivotal role in establishing one of the largest digital engineering firms globally.
Born in Dibrugarh, Human spent part of his childhood in Iraq before relocating to Delhi as a teenager. He earned a PhD in supply chain management from IIT Delhi and an MS in manufacturing systems engineering from Stanford University, where he received a fellowship from the Stanford Institute of Manufacturing and Automation. His fascination with software began in the 1990s while in California, where he noted the universal language of code among developers. This passion led him and a group of entrepreneurs to merge two small firms, resulting in the creation of Nagarro.
The name “Nagarro” was serendipitously chosen from a novel by Robert Ludlum, where it symbolized spirits coming together. Initially, the company faced slow growth, taking five years to reach $1 million in annual revenue. However, after two decades, Nagarro’s revenue surged to nearly $1 billion, positioning it as one of the fastest-growing digital engineering companies worldwide. The firm was previously part of the German IT services group Allgeier before becoming an independent entity listed in December 2020.
Nagarro’s growth strategy focused on delivering optimal engineering outcomes through decentralized teams and a non-hierarchical structure, preserving its startup culture. As Persistent Systems moves to acquire Nagarro in a $1.3 billion deal, Human emphasizes that this reflects a significant shift in technology. Beyond his business achievements, Human made headlines in 2022 by changing his surname from Fuloria to Human, a personal statement against identity-based conflicts. He expressed that his primary focus remains on ensuring the success of Nagarro, stating, “I am very much here.”
