MediaTek Unveils New Dimensity 7400 Chipsets

MediaTek has launched two innovative chipsets, the Dimensity 7400 and Dimensity 7400X, aimed at enhancing mobile device performance. These new processors are designed for mainstream smartphones, with the Dimensity 7400 serving as a successor to last year’s model, while the 7400X is tailored for foldable devices. The company anticipates that smartphones featuring these chipsets will hit the market by the first quarter of 2025.
Advanced Architecture and AI Capabilities
The Dimensity 7400 series boasts an octa-core architecture built on TSMC’s advanced 4nm process node. Each chipset includes four Arm Cortex-A78 cores with a peak clock speed of 2.6GHz and four Arm Cortex-A55 cores operating at 2.0GHz. This powerful configuration is complemented by an Arm Mali-G615 MC2 graphics processing unit (GPU), which enhances gaming and multimedia experiences. MediaTek emphasizes that these new chips consume 14 to 36 percent less power during gaming compared to competing processors, making them a more energy-efficient choice for users.
Both chipsets feature an integrated neural processing unit (NPU), specifically MediaTek’s NPU 6.0, which is designed to improve artificial intelligence (AI) performance. This latest NPU version offers a 15 percent boost in AI applications, enabling smarter and more responsive mobile experiences. Additionally, the Dimensity 7400 series supports MediaTek Advanced Gaming Technology (MAGT) 3.0, which optimizes graphics performance, reduces input lag, and enhances power efficiency during gaming sessions.
Camera and Display Enhancements
Smartphones equipped with the Dimensity 7400 series will support impressive camera capabilities, including sensors up to 200 megapixels. This is made possible through the built-in MediaTek Imagiq 950 12-bit HDR image signal processor (ISP), which enhances image quality with features like motion compensated noise reduction (MCNR) and hardware face detection (HWFD). The chipsets also support video capture and playback in up to 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, ensuring high-quality visual content creation and consumption.
In terms of display capabilities, the Dimensity 7400 series can handle full HD+ resolutions at refresh rates of 144Hz or wide full HD+ resolutions at 120Hz. This versatility allows manufacturers to create devices that cater to various user preferences, whether for gaming or media consumption.
Connectivity and Future Prospects
Connectivity is another strong suit of the Dimensity 7400 series, featuring MediaTek’s 5G R16 modem, which offers impressive downlink speeds of up to 3.27Gbps. The modem also supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4, ensuring that users can enjoy fast and reliable connections. MediaTek’s UltraSave 3.0+ technology further enhances power efficiency, reducing consumption by 20 percent compared to rival chipsets.
Moreover, the Dimensity 7400 series supports various satellite systems, including QZSS, Galileo, Beidou, GLONASS, NavIC, and GPS, making it a versatile choice for navigation and location-based services. With these advancements, MediaTek aims to solidify its position in the competitive mobile chipset market, catering to the growing demand for high-performance, energy-efficient devices.
