The Indian Navy is making important strides in building stronger naval cooperation with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). As part of their Long Range Training Deployment, two Indian naval ships—INS Tir and ICGS Veera from the First Training Squadron (1TS)—arrived at the Port of Manama, Bahrain, on October 12, 2024. This visit aims to improve collaboration with the Royal Bahrain Naval Forces (RBNF) and enhance joint naval operations between the two nations.
Strengthening Naval Cooperation with Bahrain
The visit to Bahrain will include various activities designed to share knowledge and strengthen naval ties. The Indian Navy and Royal Bahrain Naval Forces will engage in multiple professional interactions, including cross-ship visits, joint training sessions, and discussions on best practices for maritime operations. These interactions help improve interoperability and ensure both navies can work together effectively.
In addition to professional engagements, the visit will include more casual activities such as yoga sessions, band concerts, friendly sports matches, and social events. These activities will allow both navies to build stronger personal connections, fostering mutual respect and cooperation.
The sea trainees of the Indian Navy will also get the chance to visit various training facilities of the RBNF. This experience will expose them to new techniques and best practices used by their Bahraini counterparts, enriching their training and knowledge.
Maritime Partnership Exercise Planned
During the visit, a key focus will be on planning a Maritime Partnership Exercise. Operational teams from both navies will hold coordination meetings to discuss the details of this joint exercise. Such drills help both nations to improve their ability to work together in maritime operations, enhancing the region’s security.
In addition, the Indian Navy will also engage with members of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), a multinational naval partnership that works to maintain maritime security in the Persian Gulf. This cooperative engagement will reaffirm the importance of ensuring maritime security in the region.
Indian Navy’s Visit to UAE
In another significant port visit, INS Shardul, another ship from the First Training Squadron, arrived at Port Rashid, Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The ship was welcomed by India’s Defence Attaché to the UAE and officials from the UAE Navy.
During this visit, INS Shardul will engage in multiple training activities and harbour interactions with the UAE Navy. These engagements will allow both navies to exchange knowledge and expertise, further strengthening the military cooperation between India and the UAE.
Building Stronger Socio-Political and Military Relations
These naval visits to Bahrain and the UAE highlight the growing defence relationships India is fostering with both nations. The deployment of the First Training Squadron not only offers valuable training opportunities for Indian sea trainees but also helps in building maritime security cooperation.
