PM GatiShakti Master Plan Launched for 27 Districts

Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, launched the district-level version of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan for 27 aspirational districts in India today. This launch marks three years of the PM GatiShakti initiative. Shri Goyal shared that this innovative tool for infrastructure planning will expand to cover over 750 districts across India within the next 18 months.

What is PM GatiShakti?

PM GatiShakti is a powerful and intelligent tool designed to improve how India plans and builds infrastructure. According to Shri Goyal, this system offers a faster, more efficient, and cost-effective approach to infrastructure development. He emphasized that India is now recognized worldwide for its modern, high-quality infrastructure, which is planned for the future and implemented efficiently.

Launch of City Logistics Plan Guidelines

Alongside the district version of PM GatiShakti, Shri Goyal also launched the ‘Guidelines for Preparing City Logistics Plans for Indian Cities’. These guidelines will help cities customize their logistics planning based on their unique needs and goals. The aim is to improve logistics in cities, making transport and movement of goods smoother and faster.

Expanding the National Master Plan

Shri Goyal announced that PM GatiShakti will continue to grow. Within 18 months, more than 750 districts across the country will use this data-backed platform for infrastructure planning. He emphasized that geospatial technologies are playing a major role in revolutionizing connectivity and helping India build world-class infrastructure.

Advanced Technology for Better Planning

The PM GatiShakti platform uses GIS (Geographic Information System) technology. This means that all the data used is validated and double-checked, ensuring accuracy. Shri Goyal praised the team from BISAG-N (Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics) for developing this system.

This data-driven tool will allow the government to save money and plan infrastructure more efficiently. It helps with decision-making, ensuring that the infrastructure built today can meet future demands.

Strengthening Indiaโ€™s Economy

Shri Goyal highlighted how PM GatiShakti is making a positive impact on India’s economy. The tool is helping the country grow faster by improving the way infrastructure is planned and built. He called it the centerpiece of Indiaโ€™s infrastructure outreach programs. This initiative has created a multiplier effect, helping the Indian economy grow at a rapid pace.

A Vision Rooted in Technology

Shri Goyal credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his vision in recognizing the potential of geospatial technologies more than 20 years ago. He explained how PM Modi first saw the importance of combining geography and spatial data to improve infrastructure planning. This vision began in Gujarat and has now expanded to the entire country through PM GatiShakti.

Expanding to Social Infrastructure

The PM GatiShakti platform is not limited to physical infrastructure like roads and railways. Shri Goyal revealed that the platform is also being used to map social infrastructure like schools, hospitals, and power distribution lines through an Area Development Approach. This means that while building physical infrastructure, the system also helps improve living conditions by ensuring easy access to social services.

Shri Goyal explained that ease of doing business and ease of living are closely connected, and PM GatiShakti is helping to merge these two goals. By improving both areas, the system ensures that Indiaโ€™s infrastructure not only supports businesses but also enhances the quality of life for its people.

Meeting with Stakeholders

A full-day meeting was organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to review the progress of the GatiShakti platform. Central and state government stakeholders came together to discuss how the platform has been working and shared ideas on how to make it even more useful for infrastructure planners at both the central and state levels.
