Lt. Gen Ajith Nilakantan to assume the appointment of Commandant, Amy Hospital (Research & Referral) on Sep 1

Lieutenant General Ajith Nilakantan will take charge as Commandant of Amy Hospital (Research and Referral) in New Delhi on 1 September 2023. Prior to taking up his current assignment, he served as Director General of Hospital Services (Armed Forces) .

An alumnus of Trivandrum Medical College, the general officer was appointed a member of the Army Medical Corps on 16 April 1987. He completed his MS in Otolaryngology at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and later trained at the Tata Memorial Hospital of Mumbai in head and neck cancer surgery.

Lieutenant General Ajith Nilakantan has held various important clinical and staff positions during his illustrious career. These include the Deputy Commander of the Military Hospital (Search and Referral) and the Commander of the Command Hospital (Eastern Command). The general officer also headed the department of ENT Head and Neck Surgery in various super specialty and apex hospitals of Armed Forces Medical Services including Command Hospital (Eastern Command), Base Hospital Delhi Cantonment, Army College of Medical Sciences, Delhi and Army Hospital (Research and Referral), Delhi. He was also a professor and head (ENT-HNS) at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune.

The Director General is recognized as a Professor/PG Examiner by MCI/NMC and various universities including University of Delhi, Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, University of Health Sciences Salute Rajiv Gandhi and King George Medical University.

For his meritorious service, he was awarded the Commanding Officer in Chief’s Commendation in 2013 and the Army Chief of Staff’s Commendation in 2014.
