In a move aimed at boosting the production and sale of Khadi National Flags across India, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) under the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) organized a Khadi National Flag Workers Dialogue on Friday at C.V. Kora Gramodyog Sansthan in Borivali. The event, attended by local dignitaries, Khadi industry representatives, and citizens, served as a platform to empower Khadi institutions nationwide and celebrate the growing demand for Khadi products, particularly the national flag.
Chief Guest Shri Manoj Kumar, Chairman of KVIC, delivered the presidential address, commending the Khadi workers for their significant role in nation-building. He emphasized the success of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, which has dramatically increased the demand for Khadi National Flags. “This initiative is a crucial step towards achieving the goal of a self-reliant India. Khadi, a symbol of our freedom struggle, is more relevant today than ever, reflecting our unwavering devotion to the nation,” Kumar stated.
He highlighted the remarkable growth of the Khadi and Village Industries sector, noting that sales have surged from ₹31,154.20 crore in the financial year 2013-14 to ₹1,55,673.12 crore in 2023-24. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and the guidance of the Ministry of MSME, the Khadi and Village Industries sector has set a new record, surpassing the ₹1.55 lakh crore mark and creating over 10.17 lakh new jobs. The Chairman also noted a staggering 1101.15% increase in Khadi National Flag sales, which jumped from ₹87 lakh in 2013-14 to ₹10.45 crore in 2023-24. Since the inception of the Tiranga Yatra, the total sales of Khadi National Flags have exceeded ₹33 crore, directly benefiting Khadi artisans through additional remuneration.
Kumar asserted that the Khadi sector has experienced a revolution over the last decade, gaining global recognition as a symbol of Indian heritage. He also addressed the spread of misleading propaganda against Khadi, vowing that the strength and dedication of Khadi artisans, 80% of whom are women, would overcome such challenges. “Khadi has stood tall since the freedom struggle and will continue to do so under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi,” Kumar declared.
The event underscored the importance of Khadi in the rural economy and its role in fostering patriotism. KVIC officers and employees, along with Khadi enthusiasts from across the country, attended the event, reinforcing their commitment to taking the Khadi industry to new heights.
