Kala Hiran Producer Seeks Public Apology from Govinda Namdev Amid Legal Threat Over Film Dispute

The ongoing controversy surrounding the film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy has escalated, with producer Amit Jani taking legal action against veteran actor Govind Namdev. This development follows Namdev’s public statements distancing himself from the project, claiming he was misled about its content. The situation has drawn significant attention, particularly due to its connections to high-profile figures and legal matters.

Govind Namdev’s Claims

In an interview with Amar Ujala, Govind Namdev expressed his shock after viewing the teaser for Kala Hiran. He stated that he had initially agreed to participate in a film he believed was titled Sambhal, which he was told would focus solely on courtroom proceedings related to Salman Khan’s blackbuck case. Namdev emphasized, “I would never knowingly participate in a project that targeted Salman Khan, whom I consider a friend.” His comments reflect a deep concern about the film’s portrayal and its implications.

Namdev’s discontent has prompted a strong response from Jani, who insists that the actor was fully aware of the film’s content. According to Jani, Namdev not only signed on for Kala Hiran but also agreed to be associated with its proposed sequel. This contradiction has fueled the ongoing dispute between the two parties.

Legal Action and Demands

In response to Namdev’s remarks, Amit Jani announced via X that he has issued a legal notice to the actor. The notice demands a public apology within seven days and a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the production house. Jani stated, “Govind Namdev ko legal notice diya. 7 din mein sarvajanik maafi maange aur production house ko 50 lakh rupaya jurmana de; anyatha kanooni karyavahi hogi.” Translated, this means that legal proceedings will follow if the demands are not met.

Jani’s legal notice adds another layer to the controversy, as he disputes Namdev’s claims of being misled. The producer’s insistence on the actor’s prior knowledge of the film’s content raises questions about the nature of their agreement and the expectations set during the project’s development.

Salman Khan’s Legal Concerns

The controversy surrounding Kala Hiran is further complicated by Salman Khan’s involvement. The actor has approached the Delhi High Court, seeking an immediate stay on the film’s promotion, release, and distribution. Khan’s legal team argues that the film unlawfully exploits his personality and publicity rights for commercial gain. They contend that the promotional material presents a misleading and defamatory narrative.

One specific concern raised by Khan’s lawyers involves posters depicting a character resembling him holding a firearm, despite his acquittal in the Arms Act case. They argue that any cinematic portrayal of ongoing legal matters could unduly influence public perception regarding the blackbuck case. The Delhi High Court has responded by issuing a formal notice to the filmmakers, requesting their response to these allegations.
