ISRO Advances Technology Transfer for Indian Industries
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is making significant strides in developing critical space technologies for its future programs. Among these advancements are innovations in Stage Recovery and Reuse, LOX-Methane engines, hybrid propulsion systems, advanced materials, and modern spacecraft designed for various missions. ISRO’s initiatives also emphasize on-orbit servicing, lunar sample returns, and even quantum communication technologies, all aimed at enhancing India’s capabilities in space exploration.
To support India’s vision for technological self-reliance and industrial development, ISRO is collaborating with the NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe). These organizations are taking proactive measures to ensure that the technologies developed by ISRO are accessible to Indian industries, including startups and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Facilitating Access to ISRO Technologies
IN-SPACe and NSIL have initiated the listing of available ISRO technologies on their respective web portals. This effort aims to maximize technology transfer to various sectors of the Indian industry. As part of this initiative, they are offering a 30% concession in the Technology Transfer Fee under the Differential Pricing Policy, encouraging participation from startups, MSMEs, and academic institutions.
New Technology Transfer Guidelines in the Works
In line with these efforts, the department has drafted new Technology Transfer Guidelines, which are currently pending approval from the relevant authorities. This move signifies ISRO’s commitment to fostering an environment where technological innovations can thrive within the Indian industrial ecosystem.
With a focus on key areas such as regenerative life support systems for sustained human space missions, rendezvous and docking technologies, and inflatable habitats, ISRO is not only paving the way for future space explorations but also strengthening the contributions of Indian industries in this field. The ambitious plans underline ISRO’s vision of empowering local businesses and enhancing the nation’s capabilities in space technology.
