IPL 2026: Badani Expresses Confidence in Delhi Capitals’ Comeback After Recent Setbacks
Despite facing two consecutive defeats in IPL 2026, Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani expresses confidence in his team’s ability to bounce back. As they prepare for an important match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Badani emphasizes that the squad has identified its weaknesses and is ready to address them. Currently positioned in the lower half of the league table following losses to Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, the team is focused on regaining clarity and momentum.
Identifying Areas of Improvement
In a recent press conference, Hemang Badani discussed the importance of recognizing the team’s areas of concern rather than fixating on momentum. He stated, “There is a lot of conversation about momentum in tournaments like this. But I think it is more about finding out what the area of concern is for a certain side.” Badani believes that the team has made progress in addressing these issues. He pointed out that the Capitals have consistently posted competitive scores, including totals of 190 and 200 in previous matches. Despite the setbacks, he remains optimistic about his batters stepping up when it matters most. “We lost a game by one run. In the last game as well, we scored around 180–190. It is a question of our batters coming good at that point in time. I think we will be okay,” he added.
Backing Young Talent
Badani also expressed his support for young pacer Auqib Nabi, who faced challenges during his debut against CSK, conceding 17 runs in just two overs. The coach highlighted Nabi’s temperament and consistency as key reasons for selecting him. “He has maintained equilibrium. Many players react differently to ups and downs, but he has been the same throughout,” Badani explained. He believes that Nabi possesses the skill set necessary to succeed at a higher level, despite the nerves that often accompany a player’s first match. “Everyone has nerves in the first game, but I think he will do well for us,” he stated, reinforcing his faith in the young bowler’s potential.
Challenges Ahead Against RCB
As Delhi Capitals aim to regain their footing, they face a formidable challenge in Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who have emerged as one of the most balanced teams this season. Led by an in-form Virat Kohli, who currently holds the Orange Cap, RCB’s batting lineup has become more diverse. Contributions from players like Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, Phil Salt, and Tim David have strengthened their batting order, making them a tough opponent. Patidar, in particular, has excelled, leading the league in six-hitting this season.
For Delhi, inconsistency remains a significant hurdle. Key players such as KL Rahul, David Miller, and Tristan Stubbs have struggled to find their rhythm, while captain Axar Patel and spinner Kuldeep Yadav have yet to reach peak performance. As the Capitals prepare for this crucial match, they will need to address these inconsistencies to compete effectively against RCB.
