IPL 2025: RCB Breaks Home Losing Streak While RR Secures Victory

Josh Hazlewood’s exceptional bowling display helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secure an 11-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2025 match held in Bengaluru. Hazlewood claimed impressive figures of 4-33, guiding RCB to their first home win of the season. Despite the Royals being in a strong position during their chase of 206 runs, they ultimately succumbed to a five-match losing streak, as RCB snapped their own three-match losing run.

Virat Kohli’s Leadership Shines

Virat Kohli played a pivotal role in RCB’s innings, scoring a robust 70 runs off 42 balls. His performance was instrumental in setting up a challenging total of 205-5 on a pitch conducive to batting. Kohli’s innings was marked by vital partnerships, including a 61-run opening stand with Phil Salt, who contributed 26 runs before being dismissed. Following this, Kohli teamed up with Devdutt Padikkal, who scored a quick-fire 50 off just 27 balls, to build a solid foundation for the team’s total. Tim David and Jitesh Sharma added valuable runs toward the end of the innings, with David scoring 23 and Sharma finishing unbeaten on 20.

On the bowling front, Jofra Archer was the standout performer for Rajasthan, taking 1-33 in his spell. Meanwhile, Sandeep Sharma and Wanindu Hasaranga contributed with figures of 2-45 and 1-30, respectively. Despite their efforts, the Royals struggled to contain the RCB batting lineup, which capitalized on the favorable conditions.

Rajasthan’s Struggles Continue

Rajasthan Royals started their chase on a promising note, with Yashasvi Jaiswal smashing 49 runs off just 19 balls. His explosive start, however, came to an end when he fell to Hazlewood’s bowling. Following Jaiswal’s dismissal, Vaibhav Suryavanshi managed only 16 runs before being caught off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The momentum shifted when Krunal Pandya’s spell claimed the crucial wickets of Nitish Rana (28) and Riyan Parag (22), tightening RCB’s grip on the match.

Dhruv Jurelโ€™s late efforts, scoring 47, showed some resistance, but his dismissal in the 19th over, along with Archer’s wicket on the next delivery, sealed Rajasthan’s fate. After the match, Parag acknowledged the team’s failure to convert promising starts into match-winning contributions, stating that they had let the game slip away despite being in the driving seat at one point.

Hazlewood’s Match-Winning Performance

Josh Hazlewood’s performance earned him the player-of-the-match award, as he demonstrated a keen understanding of the conditions. He remarked on his strategy, focusing on hard lengths and mixing them with yorkers and change of pace to keep the batsmen guessing. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, though effective in parts, ended with figures of 1-50. The match highlighted the challenges faced by Rajasthan as they failed to secure a victory, marking their fifth consecutive loss in this season of IPL.
