The conflict arose due to the ongoing hostilities between the Palestine Liberation Organisation and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), prompting Israel’s forces to invade southern Lebanon in response to repeated attacks and counterattacks. The invasion was triggered by an assassination attempt on an Israeli ambassador.
