INS Sudarshini to Embark on Epic Global Voyage in 2026
The Indian Navy is set to showcase its maritime prowess and rich heritage with the upcoming voyage of INS Sudarshini, its sail training ship. This flagship journey, named _Lokayan 26_, is scheduled to begin on January 20, 2026. Over the course of ten months, the ship will cover an impressive 22,000 nautical miles, visiting 18 foreign ports across 13 different countries, symbolizing India’s commitment to the global maritime community.
Historic Participation in International Events
A standout feature of this expedition will be INS Sudarshini’s participation in renowned international tall-ship festivals, including _Escale à Sète_ in France and SAIL 250 in New York, USA. During these prestigious events, the ship will serve as a representative of India’s seafaring legacy, showcasing the nation’s rich maritime traditions to a global audience.
Throughout the voyage, more than 200 trainees from the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard will gain extensive sail training. They will learn invaluable skills in long-range ocean navigation and traditional seamanship while living aboard the tall ship. The experience aims to provide these future leaders in maritime operations with practical training as well as opportunities for cultural exchange and professional interaction with trainees from other naval forces.
In addition to its training objectives, INS Sudarshini’s voyage will involve maritime partnership engagements with the navies of the countries it visits. These interactions are designed to strengthen maritime cooperation and advance the Indian Navy’s vision of _MAHASAGAR_, promoting mutual trust and collaboration among nations.
