Indie Haat 2026: Celebrating India’s Handloom Heritage
The Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh, is set to inaugurate ‘Indie Haat – A Celebration of India’s Rich Handloom and Handicraft Heritage’ on July 13, 2026. This vibrant event will take place from July 10 to 19, 2026, at the National Crafts Museum & Hastkala Academy in New Delhi, and is intricately linked to Bharat Tex 2026, India’s grandest global textile showcase scheduled at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi from July 14 to 17, 2026.
Indie Haat aims to present India’s traditional craftsmanship to a global audience, reinforcing the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Vocal for Local initiatives. Specially curated for Bharat Tex 2026, this event shines a spotlight on the handloom and handicraft creations of Indian artisans, offering them a platform to reach a vast international market.
The initiative is organized by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) and the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), with curation provided by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). This partnership ensures that visitors will experience India’s outstanding craftsmanship framed in a contemporary and engaging context.
Indie Haat will feature an impressive showcase of products crafted by 48 artisans and weavers, alongside contributions from 12 design-oriented brands led by NIFT alumni. The range of crafts on display includes Gulabi Minakari, Stone Inlay, Dokra metalwork, a variety of musical instruments, manuscript paintings, and the distinctive Blue Pottery of Jaipur, among many others. This rich diversity reflects the artistic traditions of India’s various regions.
Attendees will have the unique opportunity to witness live demonstrations of traditional craft techniques. This immersive experience aims to deepen appreciation for India’s heritage while facilitating direct interaction between artisans and prospective buyers—a step towards strengthening market connections and enhancing the economic well-being of craftspersons.
To broaden its reach and attract international interest, the Indie Haat e-invite is included in the official buyer kit, accompanied by extensive promotional efforts throughout Bharat Mandapam.
Bharat Tex 2026 will occupy an impressive 1.6 million square feet of exhibition space, featuring over 20,000 textile products. This landmark event is expected to draw more than 7,000 international buyers and over 130,000 visitors, including policymakers and industry leaders from around the globe.
