India’s Semiconductor Revolution: Major Announcements at Global Investors Summit

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made significant announcements during the second day of the ‘Global Investors Summit 2025’ held in Bhopal. He congratulated the HLBS family on the inauguration of a new plant and revealed that India is set to produce its first ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chip by 2025. This initiative marks a pivotal moment in the country’s electronics manufacturing landscape.
Madhya Pradesh’s Electronics Manufacturing Surge
During his address, Minister Vaishnaw praised the contributions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in driving the state’s electronics manufacturing sector forward. Under Modi’s leadership, Madhya Pradesh has seen a remarkable increase in electronic manufacturing activities. The Prime Minister has approved the establishment of two electronic manufacturing clusters, one in Bhopal and another in Jabalpur. Currently, 85 companies are actively participating in the electronics sector, showcasing the state’s growing prominence in this industry.
The government’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, as the electronics manufacturing sector in Madhya Pradesh has reached a valuation of Rs. 10 lakh crore. This growth is a testament to the collaborative efforts of both state and central governments in fostering an environment conducive to technological advancement and investment.
Training Initiatives for Future Engineers
In a bid to bolster the workforce in the electronics sector, Minister Vaishnaw announced a training program aimed at equipping 20,000 engineers in Madhya Pradesh with future skills. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the talent pool in the rapidly evolving electronics manufacturing landscape. Over the past decade, India has emerged as a significant player in electronics exports, with a current export value of Rs. 5 lakh crore. This includes mobile devices, laptops, servers, and defense electronics, positioning electronics among the top three export categories for the country.
The government’s commitment to training and development is crucial as the sector continues to expand. By investing in education and skill development, India aims to ensure that its workforce is prepared to meet the demands of a technology-driven future.
Advancements in Semiconductor Manufacturing
India is making strides in semiconductor manufacturing, with five production units currently under construction. The first ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chip is anticipated to be ready by 2025. To support this growth, the government has initiated a program to train 85,000 engineers specifically in advanced semiconductor and electronics manufacturing. This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to building a robust semiconductor ecosystem in the country.
Minister Vaishnaw highlighted the vision and leadership of Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing that the government’s unwavering support has propelled India’s electronics manufacturing industry to unprecedented heights. He congratulated the people of Madhya Pradesh on their achievements and extended his best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri.
New IT Campus and Future Infrastructure Goals
The newly inaugurated IT campus in Bhopal spans 1 lakh square feet and is equipped with cutting-edge facilities for manufacturing IT hardware and electronic products. This facility will produce a range of electronic components, including servers, desktops, and drones, with an investment of approximately Rs. 150 crores over the next six years. It is expected to create around 1,200 jobs, further contributing to the local economy.
On the first day of the Global Investors Summit, significant investments were announced, including agreements between Indian Railways and the Madhya Pradesh government on renewable energy projects. The Modi government is focusing on future-ready infrastructure, aiming to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 through investments in infrastructure, inclusive growth, and manufacturing expansion.
