India’s PM E-DRIVE Scheme Achieves Electric Vehicle Milestone

The Indian government’s PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme has made significant strides since its announcement on September 29, 2024. With a financial commitment of ₹10,900 crore, the program has successfully fostered the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) across various segments, achieving targets ahead of schedule.

One of the key highlights is the remarkable progress in the e-3W (L5) segment, with a total of 288,508 units sold, meeting the target of 288,809 units entirely. However, the program has now officially closed its incentivization for e-3Ws (L5) following December 26, 2025.

As per the estimates, the penetration of EVs in the e-3W (L5) category has reached approximately 32%. This aligns seamlessly with the government’s broader vision of developing a self-sustaining electric vehicle ecosystem in the country.

Sales Figures Under PM E-DRIVE Scheme

As of December 30, 2025, a total of 2.12 million electric vehicles have been sold under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, with the breakdown as follows:

Segment Target Nos. EVs Sold % Share No. of OEMs Registered
e-2W 2,479,120 1,840,007 74% 19
e-rickshaw & e-cart 39,034 5,267 13% 5
e-3W (L5) 288,809 288,508 100% 15
Total for above 2,806,963 2,123,782 76%

Currently, the e-2W segment has seen sales of 1,840,007 units, falling slightly short of its target of nearly 2.48 million units. The incentivization for both e-2Ws and e-rickshaws/e-carts under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme is set to continue until March 31, 2026, providing further encouragement for consumers to embrace electric mobility. This ambitious initiative not only aims to increase the adoption of electric vehicles but also seeks to contribute to India’s goal of sustainable and greener transportation solutions.
