India’s MSME Council Enhances Support with New Digital Initiatives
The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) of India held its fifth National MSME Council meeting on February 24, 2026, at the NASC Complex in New Delhi. This council is an essential part of the World Bank-supported RAMP Programme, aimed at overseeing coordination between central and state governments, fostering synergies, and monitoring the implementation of reforms in the MSME sector. The RAMP Programme focuses on improving market access, enhancing credit facilities, strengthening governance, ensuring timely payments, and supporting the green initiatives of MSMEs.
Minister Urges States to Boost MSME Growth
Chaired by Hon’ble Union Minister for MSME, Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, the meeting encouraged all states and union territories (UTs) to prioritize the development of the MSME sector. The Minister underscored the importance of supporting MSMEs to help drive income and employment growth, thereby contributing significantly to India’s overall economic progress. He advocated for enhanced collaboration between central and state initiatives to boost the sector’s global competitiveness.
Launch of Udyami Bharat Portal and MSME Technology Transfer Platform
During the meeting, the Minister introduced the Udyami Bharat Portal (UBP), envisaged as a One Stop Shop for MSME services, aligning with the Digital India Mission. This integrated platform consolidates resources from various central ministries, departments, and state governments to streamline access to essential services for MSMEs. Additionally, the MSME Technology Transfer Platform (MTTP) was unveiled. This platform provides MSMEs with access to advanced technologies, testing facilities, skills development, and support for intellectual property commercialization. The Minister emphasized supporting women and marginalized entrepreneurs to foster inclusive growth and sustainability.
World Bank’s Commitment to MSME Development
Sebastian Eckardt, Regional Director for the World Bank, expressed satisfaction with the partnership with the Ministry for the RAMP Programme. He highlighted the program’s objectives, including promoting sustainability, gender inclusion, enhanced financial access, and innovative solutions like online dispute resolution for MSMEs. Eckardt reiterated the World Bank’s commitment to boosting enterprise competitiveness and facilitating job creation across India.
Progress and Success Stories Shared
Dr. Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner, noted the growth in the MSME sector over the past four years. He urged representatives from states and UTs to expedite the implementation of approved projects under the RAMP Programme, ensuring that MSMEs fully leverage the initiatives introduced by the Ministry. Success stories from Jammu & Kashmir, Goa, Manipur, Nagaland, and Odisha were shared during the meeting, showcasing the positive impact of the RAMP initiatives. Attendees included officials from various central ministries, state governments, SIDBI, NSIC, and other dignitaries.
