India’s MICE Industry Expected to Contribute Significantly to the Economy

The Ministry of Tourism, in partnership with the Rajasthan government and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), hosted the Meet in India Conclave on May 4, 2025, in Jaipur. This event coincided with the 14th Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) and aimed to highlight India’s growing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. Union Minister of Tourism and Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, emphasized the sector’s potential to drive economic growth and create quality jobs, positioning India as a significant player on the global MICE stage.
India’s MICE Industry on the Rise
During the conclave, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat addressed the attendees, underscoring the rapid growth of India’s MICE industry. He noted that the sector is becoming a global powerhouse, supported by strong economic growth and world-class infrastructure. The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing tourism opportunities across various states, urging India to establish itself firmly on the global MICE map. With iconic venues like Bharat Mandapam and Jio World Centre, the goal is to elevate at least ten Indian cities into the top MICE destinations worldwide. The minister’s remarks reflect a broader vision for India to become a leading tourism and events destination under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Delegates and Participants at the Conclave
The Meet in India Conclave attracted over 300 delegates, including international and domestic MICE companies, professional conference organizers, and foreign tour operators. Participants also included media representatives and stakeholders from various tourism and hospitality associations. This diverse gathering aimed to foster collaboration and innovation within the MICE sector. The event served as a platform for discussing strategies to enhance India’s appeal as a MICE destination, with a focus on leveraging the country’s rich cultural heritage and modern infrastructure.
Growth Projections for India’s MICE Market
The Indian MICE market generated approximately USD 49.4 billion in revenue in 2024, with projections indicating it could reach USD 103.7 billion by 2030, reflecting a compound annual growth rate of 13%. This growth is attributed to the emergence of MICE-ready destinations in cities such as Varanasi and Kochi. Over the past decade, India has made significant strides in infrastructure development, including the construction of over 150,000 kilometers of roads and more than 150 operational airports. The successful hosting of G20 events has further strengthened India’s position as a viable venue for international conferences and exhibitions.
Rajasthan’s Commitment to MICE Tourism
Rajasthan’s Deputy Chief Minister, Ms. Diya Kumari, emphasized the state’s transformation into a vibrant hub for MICE tourism. She highlighted the availability of state-of-the-art convention centers, seamless connectivity, and world-class hospitality as key factors in attracting MICE events. The Deputy CM articulated Rajasthan’s strategic commitment to MICE tourism, aiming to provide enriching experiences for visitors. Additionally, other state representatives, including Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister, Smt. Pravati Parida, echoed similar sentiments, showcasing their states’ readiness to host global events.
The conclave concluded with a keynote address from Dr. Senthil Gopinath, CEO of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), and sessions focused on strategies for enhancing India’s MICE tourism potential. Following the conclave, the 14th edition of the Great Indian Travel Bazaar is set to take place from May 5 to 6 at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC).
