Indian Navy Ships Deploy for Training in Southeast Asia
The First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy, consisting of the ships INS Tir, Shardul, Sujata, and ICGS Sarathi, is setting sail for a Long Range Training Deployment (LRTD) to Southeast Asia. This initiative aligns with the training curriculum for the 110th Integrated Officers’ Training Course (IOTC) and aims to bolster India’s maritime ties with this vital region.
Engaging with Southeast Asia
As part of their deployment, the squadron plans to make port calls in key Southeast Asian nations including Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand. This journey is crafted to provide officer trainees with rich operational and cultural experiences, reaffirming India’s ongoing maritime engagements in line with its Act East Policy. The vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indian Ocean Region is at the heart of this effort.
During their visits, the squadron will participate in various professional interactions and training engagements with the local navies and maritime agencies. Planned activities include structured training exchanges, cross-deck visits, and discussions with subject matter experts. Furthermore, Joint Maritime Partnership exercises will enhance collaborative efforts at sea.
Strengthening International Ties
This deployment also features six international officer trainees as part of the IOTC, showcasing the Indian Navy’s commitment to enhancing capacity building and professional development for personnel from allied nations. Additionally, members from the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force are aboard the vessels, highlighting a unified approach among India’s armed forces.
The Long Range Training Deployment emphasizes the Indian Navy’s dedication to excellence in training while simultaneously promoting maritime diplomacy, fostering goodwill, and ensuring a cooperative approach to regional maritime security. This initiative not only trains officers but also reinforces India’s maritime presence and partnerships in a crucial geopolitical region.
