Indian Defence Forces Enhance Joint Operations Capabilities

The Headquarters Western Air Command has successfully convened a significant Joint Operations Conclave on February 5 and 6, 2026, as a part of the All Domain Joint Operations (ADJO) Exercise 2026 Framework. This conclave aimed to strengthen interactions, both intra-service and inter-service, focusing on enhancing operational capabilities across the Indian Armed Forces in today’s intricate multi-domain battlefield environment.

Senior officers from various branches, including the Integrated Defence Staff (IDS), Indian Army, Indian Navy, Defence Space Agency (DSA), and Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), joined high-ranking officials from the Indian Air Force in the discussions during this crucial event.

Opening the conclave, Air Marshal JS Mann, Senior Air Staff Officer of Western Air Command, underscored the critical role of joint operations and integrated warfare strategies in present and future military conflicts. He pointed out the urgent need for an all-domain operational strategy that facilitates smooth integration across air, land, sea, space, and cyber, enabling effective responses in contested environments. He urged for improved interoperability among the military branches and emphasized the development of efficient decision-making processes and operational procedures.

Integrated Planning for Future Conflicts

Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, addressed the participants, stressing the necessity of establishing joint mechanisms for integrated planning and intelligence sharing. He advocated for coherent inter-service responses and focused on identifying capability gaps to enhance operational readiness for future challenges. His emphasis was on advancing all-domain integration to foster unified operational outcomes across the services.

Lessons from Operation Sindoor

At the conclusion of the conclave, Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Air Command, reflected on valuable lessons drawn from Operation Sindoor. He elaborated on the significant implications these lessons hold for future warfare. Mishra emphasized air power’s vital role in securing strategic advantages and the importance of synchronizing ground operations with aerial strategies, particularly through the use of stand-off weapons.

He called for a fundamental shift away from outdated attrition-based models towards a more agile and fully integrated joint warfare approach. Highlighting the need for bridging existing capability gaps, he pressed for coordinated responses in the all-domain operational landscape.

The All Domain Joint Operations Exercise 2026 serves as a pivotal step towards building a truly interoperable and future-ready joint force. This initiative reaffirms the Indian Defence Forces’ commitment to integrating operational strategies that enhance national security readiness across a spectrum of contemporary challenges.
