Indian Army Unveils Revolutionary Xtreme Weather Diesel Fuel
In a significant advancement for military operations, General Dhiraj Seth, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), has launched the Xtreme Weather Grade (XWG) Diesel in New Delhi. This innovative fuel has been jointly developed by the Indian Army along with various Oil Marketing Companies. XWG Diesel is designed to boost the mobility, safety, and operational capabilities of both combat and logistics vehicles, particularly in extreme climatic conditions.
Conventional diesel fuels often face challenges in severe cold, thickening and clogging fuel filters at low temperatures, which can cripple vehicle operations in high-altitude areas and during winter months. However, XWG Diesel addresses these issues, performing effectively in temperatures as low as minus 42 degrees Celsius. It meets BS-VI standards and IS 1460:2025 specifications, allowing seamless integration with the existing vehicle fleet of the Indian Army without necessitating any engine modifications or re-homologation.

During the launch event, COAS General Dhiraj Seth hailed XWG Diesel as a transformative indigenous innovation. He emphasized that this new fuel will significantly enhance mobility, operational readiness, and reliability of missions carried out in challenging climates. The COAS noted that the introduction of XWG Diesel would reduce the need for previous practices required to ensure vehicle functionality during harsh winters, thus contributing to greater safety and boosted morale for personnel.
General Seth praised the collaborative efforts of the Indian Army and the Oil Marketing Companies, commending them for developing this critical solution in less than a year. He expressed optimism that this partnership would continue, resulting in further advancements and specialized fuels tailored for various operational demands.
