Indian Army Leaders Focus on Future Readiness at ACC 2026

The biannual Army Commanders’ Conference (ACC) concluded on April 16, 2026, after commencing on April 13. Chaired by the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), this high-level meeting brought together top military officials and included addresses from key government figures such as the Cabinet Secretary, Chief of Defence Staff, Defence Secretary, Chairman of the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), and the Chief of Naval Staff. This year’s conference built on the vision to transition into a ‘Future Ready Force’ as the Indian Army has declared 2026 the year of “Networking and Data Centricity.”
During the conference, participants examined various critical issues related to modernization, technology integration in combat scenarios, doctrinal strategies, and training necessities. A significant emphasis was placed on enhancing operational readiness and tackling new security challenges through improved networking and data capabilities. Insights gained from Operation Sindoor influenced discussions, particularly regarding the requirements for operational capabilities, including the deployment of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS).
Geopolitical Insights and National Security
Distinguished speakers addressed the shifting geopolitical landscape and emerging security dynamics, both globally and regionally. They underscored lessons from global conflicts, stressing the necessity for hard power to safeguard India’s strategic and security interests. Moreover, the discussions highlighted the importance of inter-ministerial coordination, improving collaboration between civil and military institutions, and adopting a comprehensive national strategy to address complex security challenges.
Indigenous Production and Self-Reliance
A consensus emerged around the pressing need to boost indigenous production capabilities, essential for fortifying self-reliance in defense. With the current supply chain crisis in mind, the emphasis on strengthening India’s long-term strategic resilience was particularly pronounced. The attendees recognized that investing in home-grown defense production not only addresses immediate needs but also prepares India for future challenges in the security domain.
The insights and discussions from the ACC 2026 set a clear direction for the Indian Army as it strives to enhance its operational readiness and adapt to the evolving landscape of global security. The commitment to modernization, along with a focus on networking and data-centricity, aligns with the overarching goal of being fully prepared for future challenges.
