Indian Army Honors Veterans on Veteran’s Day with Celebratory Events
The Indian Army marked Veteran’s Day with great enthusiasm across various military establishments, engaging in welfare events dedicated to Veterans, Veer Naris, and their families at locations such as New Delhi, Jaipur, Amritsar, Lucknow, Ranchi, and Rajouri. In Jaipur, the celebrations were led by General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), who later presented gallantry awards and commendations to courageous soldiers during a special Investiture Ceremony.
At a vibrant Army Veteran’s Day Lunch held at the Polo Ground of the Jaipur Military Station, General Dwivedi took the opportunity to interact with Veterans and Veer Naris. He acknowledged their invaluable contributions to both the Army’s enduring legacy and the nation’s security. The COAS recognized the tireless efforts of officials from the Zila Sainik Boards in addressing veterans’ issues and unveiled the ‘Samman’ magazine produced by the Directorate of Indian Army Veterans. Also present was Ms. Sunita Dwivedi, President of the Army Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA), who honored Veer Naris and Veer Matas during the event.
In his address, General Dwivedi extended heartfelt greetings to all Veterans, Veer Naris, and their families, paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. He emphasized that the welfare of Veterans and the families of the fallen is a top priority and an ongoing duty for the Indian Army. He also stressed the importance of modernizing the Army through technology and maintaining operational readiness, while upholding core values such as honor, courage, and duty. The COAS praised Veterans as exemplary role models and encouraged continued engagement with youth and communities to bolster national unity, discipline, and resilience. He expressed gratitude to civil authorities and all involved parties for their effective support in enhancing outreach and welfare initiatives for Veterans.
During the Army Investiture Ceremony, General Dwivedi awarded ten Sena Medals for Gallantry and 49 COAS Unit Citations, along with Certificates of Appreciation to 60 units, including those recognized for their efforts during Operation Sindoor. These awards celebrated the courage and dedication of personnel serving the nation. Additionally, six Veteran Achievers and three civilians were honored for their significant contributions in support of the Indian Army.
As part of the ongoing celebrations, the Army Day Parade is scheduled for January 15, 2026, at Mahal Road in Jaipur, followed by the Shaurya Sandhya event at Sawai Man Singh Stadium. These events will showcase the Indian Army’s professionalism, operational readiness, and its strong connection with the people.
