India-USA announces 1st Joint Call for proposal under MeitY-NSF research collaboration

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced its 1st Joint Call for Proposals under the MeitY-National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Collaboration. MeitY-NSF signed an Implementation Agreement (IA) on Research Collaboration in May 2023. This collaborative research opportunity between MeitY and NSF specifically focuses on breakthroughs and innovations in areas of mutual interest as highlighted in the Joint Statement by the Government of India and the United States of America during Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States in June 2023.

In the first joint call, proposals in the fields of semiconductor research, next generation communication technologies/networks/systems, cybersecurity, sustainability and green technologies, and intelligent transport systems will be considered. Proposal submission will start on 21 August 2023 and the latest proposal submission date is 05 January 2024. Technology development can be in terms of prototype development, pilot scale demonstrations, field implementation and acceleration of technology transfer through this joint initiative. US and Indian investigator proposing teams are strongly encouraged to develop appropriate partnerships with test bed vendors, local communities and industry partners to ensure that resources and expertise are available for the success of their projects.

The announcement was made today jointly by Shri Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Secretary, MeitY and Dr Panchanathan, Director, NSF, in the presence of Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, Assistant Secretary, MeitY and other senior officials from MeitY, NSF and the US Embassy United States.
