India Unveils Khelo Bharat Niti-2025 to Boost Sports Ecosystem
The Government of India has officially launched the Khelo Bharat Niti-2025 on July 10, 2025, aiming to cultivate a robust, inclusive, and performance-oriented sports environment across the nation. This initiative is encapsulated in the guiding vision: “Sports for Nation Building — Harness the Power of Sports for Nation’s Holistic Development.” The policy seeks to enhance grassroots sports infrastructure and foster early talent recognition, especially in urban and rural sectors.
One of the primary goals of the Khelo Bharat Niti-2025 is to bridge the existing rural-urban divide in sports. The policy proposes enhanced access to essential training facilities and dedicated sports infrastructures, ensuring that athletes from various backgrounds, including women, individuals with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged groups, can pursue their sporting ambitions. By integrating sports into the school curriculum, the initiative aims to promote community involvement and collaboration among key stakeholders, thereby broadening outreach and minimizing barriers to participation.
Moreover, Khelo Bharat Niti-2025 outlines a significant investment plan for developing advanced sports infrastructure and structured training systems. The policy also intends to establish higher-level training centers designed to elevate the overall quality of athlete preparation, ensuring that upcoming sports talents receive the best possible guidance and resources.
While sports are primarily a responsibility of the State and Union Territory governments, the Union Government plays a crucial complementary role. It implements various schemes and programs in alignment with the National Sports Policy and conducts assessments based on defined guidelines and reporting frameworks. The effectiveness and impact of these initiatives are evaluated through third-party assessments, adhering to the evaluation guidelines set forth by the Department of Expenditure.
This announcement was made by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, in response to an inquiry during a session in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The Khelo Bharat Niti-2025 promises a bright future for sports in India, paving the way for a more inclusive and far-reaching sports culture.
