India Sets Ambitious Vision for Future 6G Networks

The Indian government has made significant strides in establishing its role in the future of telecommunications by endorsing a set of core principles for the development of 6G networks. In a written response to queries in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, highlighted the collective agreement reached at the Bharat 6G Symposium 2025, known as the New Delhi Declaration. This landmark declaration emphasizes a vision where 6G networks are recognized as a global public good.

Core Principles for 6G Networks

The New Delhi Declaration outlines five fundamental principles that should guide the evolution of 6G networks. These principles are: ensuring networks are trusted and secure, building systems that are resilient and reliable, fostering standards that are open and interoperable, making technology inclusive and affordable, and promoting sustainability in practice. These core tenets reflect a commitment to not only advancing technology but also ensuring that the benefits of such advancements are accessible to a wider audience.

Global Collaboration on 6G

The declaration was signed by a coalition of leading global and regional alliances focused on 6G and advanced connectivity. Notable signatories include the Bharat 6G Alliance, the 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA), and several other prominent international platforms. This broad coalition aims to strengthen global collaboration on research and innovation in 6G technology while aligning with global standardization efforts and promoting the development of trustworthy and robust network ecosystems.

India’s Role in 6G Research

By participating actively in the 6G discourse, India is positioning itself as a key contributor to the global 6G landscape. This engagement not only opens avenues for Indian startups, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and academic institutions but also enables deeper participation in international dialogues surrounding the future of connectivity. Furthermore, the Indian government’s recent release of the Bharat 6G Vision Document in March 2023 outlines the goal of designing and deploying 6G technologies that ensure intelligent and secure connectivity, aiming for India to emerge as a global leader in 6G technology by 2030.
