India Sends First Millet Food Shipment to New Zealand

In a landmark achievement for India’s agricultural exports, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) announced the first sea shipment of botanical-infused ready-to-cook millet functional foods from Karnataka to New Zealand on June 3, 2026. This pivotal shipment marks a significant step in promoting India’s innovative millet-based food products to global markets.
The consignment, consisting of one metric tonne of advanced millet-based products, was dispatched by Infini Agrotek LLP, based in Bengaluru. As international demand for innovative food products made from India’s traditional grains grows, this shipment exemplifies the increasing opportunities for value-added agricultural exports from the country.
Infini Agrotek had engaged in APEDA-supported trade promotion events, such as World Food India 2025, Indus Food 2025, and Gulfood 2026. Participation in these exhibitions allowed the company to connect with global buyers, enhance its customer base, and strengthen its foothold in international markets. The export order received from New Zealand is a direct result of APEDA’s extensive market outreach and networking facilitation.
Shri Abhishek Dev, IAS, the Chairman of APEDA, virtually flagged off the shipment, extending his congratulations to the company on this milestone. He expressed appreciation for the firm’s commitment to developing unique millet-based products and expanding their reach to international consumers.
During the virtual ceremony, the exporter was urged to continue leveraging APEDA’s export promotion initiatives and participate actively in upcoming trade fairs and exhibitions to further enhance their market presence and uncover new business avenues.
The successful export of botanical-infused millet functional foods underscores the increasing potential of India’s value-added agricultural products. It is anticipated that such initiatives will benefit millet-producing farmers by meeting rising global demand and granting improved market access. This contributes to the strengthening of India’s agri-export ecosystem while fostering opportunities throughout the millet value chain.
APEDA remains committed to facilitating the export of agricultural and processed food products through various initiatives, including market development programs, capacity-building efforts, and involvement in major domestic and international trade events. The successful shipment not only highlights the growing global acceptance of millet-based innovations but also cements the expanding role of India’s millet sector on the international stage.
Millets are fast becoming an essential part of India’s agricultural export portfolio due to their nutritional advantages, climate resilience, and increasing consumer interest worldwide. The development and export of value-added millet products present new opportunities for farmers, food processors, and exporters, while also contributing to the diversification and expansion of India’s agri-food exports.
