India Prepares for Haj 2026 with Comprehensive Training Program

The Ministry of Minority Affairs has officially kicked off its preparations for the Haj 2026 pilgrimage by hosting an Orientation-cum-Training Programme for Haj Deputationists at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The event, inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Shri George Kurian, signals the start of arrangements for approximately 1.75 lakh Indian pilgrims expected to embark on this sacred journey.

Key Responsibilities and Support for Pilgrims

Deputationists, selected from a variety of government organizations, will be deployed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for two and a half months. They will operate under the oversight of the Consulate General of India (CGI) and will play a crucial role in providing essential administrative and medical support to the pilgrims. This initiative reflects a collaborative national effort aimed at ensuring all pilgrims have safe, efficient, and compassionate service during their journey.

Logistics and Welfare Measures Highlighted

In his inaugural address, Minister Kurian emphasized the complexity and scale of managing such a vast undertaking. He pointed out that the deputationists will be the face of the Government of India during the pilgrimage, serving around 1.75 lakh attendees. The Minister also outlined significant welfare reforms designed to enhance the pilgrimage experience, including special arrangements for elderly pilgrims and women traveling without a Mehram.

Government Coordination and Technological Integration

Dr. C.S. Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, reiterated India’s robust status as one of the largest contributors of Haj pilgrims globally. He noted that preparations for Haj 2026 have been streamlined through coordinated efforts involving multiple ministries, including the Ministries of Home Affairs, External Affairs, Health & Family Welfare, and Civil Aviation. The program aims to incorporate new technologies, such as AI-enabled systems and digital platforms for better management.

Training Focus Areas

Training sessions during the program covered various key themes including the management of Haj in Saudi Arabia, pilgrim health issues, and essential operational guidelines. Shri Ram Singh, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, discussed recent operational changes and emphasized the necessity of the training program, which includes updates aligned with the latest Saudi guidelines. Innovations like the Haj Suvidha App and smart wearable devices are set to enhance the safety and overall experience of pilgrims.
