India Launches #SkillTheNation Challenge to Boost AI Readiness

In a remarkable move to enhance India’s technological landscape, President Smt. Droupadi Murmu has launched the ‘#SkillTheNation Challenge’. This initiative encourages citizens, educators, policymakers, and professionals to participate actively in learning Artificial Intelligence (AI) through the SOAR (Skilling for AI Readiness) course available on the Skill India Digital Hub. The President emphasized that this initiative is a crucial step toward preparing the nation for a future where technological skills are paramount.

SOAR Program Aims for Inclusive AI Learning

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship introduced the SOAR program in July 2025, aimed at providing structured micro-credential courses on AI. These courses target school students, educators, working professionals, and lifelong learners, making AI education accessible and engaging. With a focus on simplicity, ethics, and responsibility, SOAR has already reached over 159,000 learners across India in just six months, with many participants successfully earning certifications and gaining confidence in AI concepts and practical applications.

Leaders Lead by Example

Demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Education, has completed the ‘AI to be Aware’ module of the SOAR program. His involvement underscores the government’s intent to foster AI literacy among its leaders. Furthermore, he has nominated other prominent figures including Shri Nara Lokesh Rao, Minister of IT in Telangana, and Shri Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO of Prasar Bharati, to partake in this national challenge, thereby igniting a widespread movement for AI education.

Inspiring Future Generations

Addressing the initiative’s significance, Minister Jayant Chaudhary stated, “India’s future workforce must not only be digitally aware but AI confident. Through the ‘Skill the Nation Challenge’, we aim to inspire every citizen to embrace learning and prepare for an AI-enabled future.” He expressed his satisfaction in nominating others to join this crucial mission, believing that it will encourage a culture of learning and innovation across the nation.

The initiative has also seen enthusiastic support from Parliament, with 15 Members of Parliament having completed the SOAR AI course module. This demonstrates a strong commitment to AI readiness among India’s legislative representatives, further solidifying the challenge’s framework within the highest democratic body.

Certificates Awarded to Young Learners

On this momentous occasion, President Murmu awarded AI course certificates to a group of 17 exceptional students from PM SHRI Schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas spanning multiple states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. This recognition highlights the importance of equipping younger generations with skills required in a progressive, technology-driven future.

With the launch of the #SkillTheNation Challenge and its core objective of embedding advanced skills in education, India aims to establish itself as a leader in AI readiness and a model for future-oriented learning globally.
