India Launches National Workshop on MSME Dispute Resolution Portal

On March 16, 2026, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) of India hosted its inaugural National Workshop focused on the MSME Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) Portal in New Delhi. The event aimed to facilitate faster, more cost-efficient, and technology-driven methods for resolving commercial disputes involving micro and small enterprises. Industry representatives, MSEF Councils, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) institutions, policymakers, and legal experts convened to strengthen these mechanisms and explore the functionalities of the MSME ODR Portal.

Government’s Commitment to MSMEs

During the workshop, senior officials from the Ministry reiterated the government’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for MSMEs by ensuring rapid dispute resolutions. They emphasized the importance of effective dispute resolution frameworks in enhancing the ease of doing business and bolstering confidence among entrepreneurs and investors. Sh. S.C.L. Das, the Secretary of MSME, encouraged all stakeholders to embrace collective responsibility and foster Centre-State collaboration to optimize the dispute resolution processes via the MSME ODR mechanism.

Emphasizing the Role of ODR

Representatives from various State Councils and industry associations underscored the critical role of the ODR portal in addressing payment delays. They highlighted how ODR could substantially diminish the time and costs linked to traditional dispute resolution methods while enhancing transparency and accessibility for small businesses throughout the nation.

Sharing Best Practices

Participants at the workshop exchanged successful case studies and best practices, demonstrating how the MSME ODR Portal has effectively resolved commercial disputes. The gathering concluded with a consensus on the necessity of reinforcing institutional frameworks, raising awareness among entrepreneurs about the ODR processes, and promoting the adoption of the portal to ensure timely and effective resolutions for challenges faced by micro and small enterprises.
