India Champions Resilient Energy Infrastructure at Davos 2026
At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, emphasized the critical need for robust infrastructure in achieving a global energy transition. Speaking during a session on resilient infrastructure, Joshi articulated that building investment-ready, scalable energy frameworks is the foremost challenge facing the world today.
Highlighting India’s progress, he noted that the nation has successfully established 267 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity as of December 2025 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. India is on a steadfast path to fulfilling its energy targets for 2030, supported by strong policies, a focus on domestic manufacturing, modernization of the grid, and innovative energy storage solutions. His remarks pointed to the importance of patient capital, blended finance, and increased collaboration among governments, private sectors, and multilateral development banks to foster a sustainable energy transition.
Sustainability Drives Economic Growth
Minister Joshi also delivered a keynote address at the roundtable titled “Delivering Sustainability at Scale: Pathways for Global Transformation.” He articulated that sustainability has transitioned from a marginal issue to a core component of competitive economic growth. According to him, the pressing question of this decade is not whether to transition towards sustainability, but how to do so rapidly and effectively while bolstering the economy.
India’s Commitment to Net-Zero
Reiterating India’s pledge to attain net-zero emissions by 2070, Joshi invoked the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which translates to “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” He explained that India views sustainability as a strategic transformation rather than just a technological shift, pursuing renewable energy as the most reliable and economically viable pathway for future development.
Enhancing International Cooperation
During his engagements, Joshi met with several international leaders, including H.E. Dr. Said Mohammed Ahmed Al Saqri from Oman. They discussed collaborations in manufacturing solar modules and green hydrogen, among other renewable energy projects, leveraging existing frameworks like the India-Oman CEPA and the International Solar Alliance.
Furthermore, discussions with H.E. Mr. Maxime Prévot from Belgium reaffirmed the strong partnership between India and Belgium, rooted in mutual trust and shared democratic values. A fruitful conversation also took place with H.E. Subaih Abdul Aziz Al-Mukhaizeem of Kuwait, revolving around investments in renewables.
Engagement with Global Investors
Joshi engaged with executives from La Caisse, focusing on boosting long-term investments in renewable energy in India, emphasizing alignment with India’s climate goals. He highlighted opportunities for scaling solar and wind projects as potential avenues for collaboration.
Moreover, he discussed with Juvencio Maeztu, CEO of Ingka Group, expressing interest in entering India’s renewable sector. Joshi encouraged the group to expand their investments, leveraging India’s stable policy environment.
Showcasing Indian Leadership
Shri Joshi was part of the inauguration of the India Pavilion at the WEF, which displayed India’s strengths in renewable energy, infrastructure, and technology. He also launched a Green Investment Handbook dubbed ‘The India Story’. The Pavilion aims to position India as a reliable destination for global partnerships and investment.
