India Approves New Investments in Electronics Manufacturing
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced the approval of 22 new investment proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), amounting to an impressive INR 41,863 crore. This latest round of approvals follows the previous endorsement of 24 applications valued at INR 12,704 crore. Together, the initiatives are projected to foster a production output of INR 2,58,152 crore and create approximately 33,791 direct jobs.
Broadening the Manufacturing Spectrum
The newly approved projects cover the manufacturing of 11 key product categories that cater to various sectors, including mobile and telecom, consumer electronics, and automotive technologies. Among these are five essential bare components: printed circuit boards (PCBs), capacitors, connectors, enclosures, and Li-ion cells. Additionally, three crucial sub-assemblies have been greenlit: camera modules, display modules, and optical transceivers, along with three critical supply chain items: aluminium extrusion, anode material, and laminate (copper clad).
Notable Approvals in Component Manufacturing
For PCBs, including high-density interconnects, approvals were awarded to nine companies, such as India Circuits Private Limited and Vital Electronics Private Limited. The manufacturing of capacitors, key components for energy storage, has been sanctioned for Deki Electronics Limited and TDK India Private Limited. Moreover, approvals for high-speed connectors went to Amphenol High Speed Technology India Private Limited, while Yuzhan Technology (India) Private Limited, Motherson Electronic Components Private Limited, and Tata Electronics Private Limited received sanction for manufacturing enclosures essential for mobile devices and IT hardware.
A Strengthening Ecosystem
In the category of sub-assemblies, Dixon Electroconnect Private Limited was approved for optical transceiver manufacturing, while Kunshan Q Tech Microelectronics (India) Private Limited and Samsung Display Noida Private Limited received approvals for camera and display module sub-assemblies, respectively. Furthermore, approvals for supply chain components include NPSPL Advanced Materials Private Limited for anode material, Wipro Global Engineering and Electronic Materials for laminate manufacturing, and Hindalco Industries Limited for aluminium extrusion, which is currently imported in full.
The approved projects, which span across eight states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, aim to bolster industrial growth evenly across India. With these fresh approvals, a total of 46 applications have now been sanctioned under the ECMS, yielding a combined investment of INR 54,567 crore and paving the way for around 51,000 new jobs in the sector.
Government Commitment and Vision
Speaking at the press announcement, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that this initiative strengthens India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem and aims to meet rising domestic demands. He noted that by 2047, India would be among the few economies maintaining growth, thereby necessitating the establishment of robust structural foundations for sustainable progress.
Minister of State Shri Jitin Prasada underscored India’s emerging reputation as a key global player in electronics manufacturing, especially amidst growing geopolitical challenges. MeitY Secretary Shri S. Krishnan also highlighted the importance of these approvals in enriching the electronic manufacturing landscape of India and achieving the ambitious goals outlined in the ECMS.
This significant step in expanding India’s manufacturing capabilities aligns closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming India into a global electronics manufacturing hub.
