IIT Mandi Conducts Inaugural Global Conference on Behavioural Science and Decision Making
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Mandi) recently held the prestigious Applied Behavioural Sciences and Decision Making Conference (ABSDM 2025), marking a significant event in the realm of behavioural science and decision-making. This two-day conference attracted a diverse group of researchers, academicians, and industry practitioners from around the globe, facilitating discussions on pioneering research in behavioural science.
Conference Highlights and Keynote Address
The conference was organized under the guidance of Prof. Varun Dutt from IIT Mandi and Prof. Sumitava Mukherjee from IIT Delhi, establishing an interdisciplinary platform that focused on the cognitive, social, and technological aspects of decision-making processes. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, the Director of IIT Mandi, who emphasized the vital role of behavioural insights in tackling pressing global issues such as climate change, technology impacts, and public policy.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Joachim Meyer from Tel Aviv University, who shared profound insights into the intersection of human decisions and algorithmic support in sectors like healthcare and defense. His findings provided a framework for enhancing the efficacy of decision-making assisted by technology.
Engaging Sessions and Future Prospects
Throughout the conference, participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions on themes such as environmental sustainability, cognitive biases, and human-AI interactions. A total of 30 research papers and poster presentations highlighted the current trends and applications of behavioural science, showcasing the field’s evolving nature and its relevance in various domains.
The event concluded with a General Body Meeting, where participants deliberated on establishing a Society for Applied Behavioural Science and Decision Making. This initiative aims to fortify research collaboration and outreach, ensuring the continuous growth of behavioural science research in India.
In addition to ABSDM 2025, IIT Mandi also organized the 7th Winter School on Cognitive Modelling (WSCM 2025), gathering experts and students to delve into the latest advancements in cognitive modelling and brain sciences.
