The Indian International Science Festival (IISF) 2024 is set to be a landmark event, featuring a total of 25 activities aimed at promoting science and technology across all sections of society. Among these, two events stand out for their crucial role in reaching a wider audience: the Science and Technology Media Conclave and Vigyanika. The Media Conclave will be divided into six sessions, with three sessions each day. Each session will cover different themes related to science communication. One of the highlights will be a discussion on “S&T Dissemination in North-East Media,” focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities in that region. Experts from North Eastern India will share their insights and experiences. Another session will explore the impact of science-based films in raising scientific awareness, featuring discussions with National Award-winning filmmakers. The event will also emphasize the importance of bridging the gap between science organizations and mass media, facilitating one-on-one interactions and panel discussions to enhance effective science news dissemination.
To make science communication more engaging, the Media Conclave will include a “Science Mentalism Show,” which aims to connect science with entertainment. This innovative approach will demonstrate that learning about science can be both informative and enjoyable.
Vigyanika: Literature as a Tool for Science Communication
Running concurrently with the Media Conclave on December 1-2, 2024, Vigyanika will focus on science communication through literature. While the Media Conclave emphasizes various media formats, Vigyanika will delve into how scientific literature, such as journals and magazines, can be utilized to enhance public understanding of science.
The event will feature multiple sessions designed to explore effective science communication through literature. The first day will include discussions on the use of national and local languages in science and technology communication, along with a workshop on scientific writing. The second day will kick off with a panel discussion on the impact of artificial intelligence on scientific writing. This will be followed by a workshop that promotes interactive approaches to science communication. Notable speakers, including Dr. Manoj Kumar Pataiariya, will share their expertise in scientific literature.
One of the most engaging sessions will be a “Kavi Sammelan,” where attendees can share science-themed poetry. Additionally, a “Science Puppet Show” will entertain and educate participants, making the event a fun and enriching experience.
