IIMC Launches Ph.D. Program to Mark 60 Years of Excellence

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has taken a significant step in its educational evolution by formally launching its Ph.D. Programme on January 1, 2026. This initiative, a pivotal milestone in IIMC’s 60-year academic journey, aims to enhance research in journalism and communication, contributing to the nation’s growth.

Admission Process Details

The Ph.D. Programme will accept scholars for the academic year 2025-26. The online admission window opened on January 1, 2026, and will remain accessible until January 30, 2026. Candidates who qualify through the UGC-NET will be invited for a personal interaction, while part-time applicants without UGC-NET qualifications must take an entrance exam scheduled for February 15, 2026. The institute will announce the list of selected candidates on February 23, 2026, with interviews set to begin on March 9, 2026. The entire admission process is expected to conclude by March 27, 2026, with coursework starting on April 1, 2026.

During the launch event of the Ph.D. admission portal, IIMC Vice Chancellor Dr. Pragya Paliwal Gaur highlighted the programme’s objective of making a substantial contribution to research for a resurgent India. She underscored the importance of innovative research projects that benefit society and the nation.

Symbolic Launch with a ‘Knowledge Tree’

Symbolizing the inception of the Ph.D. Programme, Dr. Paliwal Gaur planted a ‘Kovidara’ sapling, referred to as the ‘Gyan Vriksh’ or Knowledge Tree, on the New Delhi campus. This act represents a commitment to fostering academic growth and knowledge dissemination.

The Ph.D. Programme at IIMC is designed to create a rigorous academic environment that promotes interdisciplinary research. It aims to expand the existing body of knowledge in journalism, communication, and related fields. The programme offers research scholars opportunities to delve deeply into various subjects, including mass communication, digital media, strategic communication, media industry management, film studies, political communication, development communication, advertising, and public relations. It also encourages innovative research and academic excellence in the media sector.
