IEPFA Hosts Investor Education and Protection Workshop for Rural Women SHGs
The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA), in collaboration with several key organizations, hosted an impactful workshop aimed at enhancing financial literacy among rural women in Haryana. Held on November 8, 2025, in Sangoha, Karnal, the event focused on empowering women through financial education and safe investment practices. This initiative aligns with India’s vision of a developed nation, emphasizing the crucial role of informed women in achieving economic growth.
Empowering Women Through Financial Literacy
The workshop, themed “Viksit Bharat ke path par Saksham Naari,” sought to foster financial awareness and economic empowerment among women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs). By bringing together experts, regulators, and academicians, the event aimed to discuss strategies that would enhance financial confidence and inclusion in the digital economy. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to building a financially literate society, where women are equipped to make informed investment decisions.
Ms. Anita Shah Akella, CEO of IEPFA and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, delivered the keynote address. She emphasized the importance of financial awareness and digital skills for women, stating that they are the backbone of a developed India. Ms. Akella highlighted IEPFA’s flagship programs, Niveshak Didi and Niveshak Shivir, which are designed to educate women on saving and investing wisely while protecting them from financial fraud.

The workshop featured a welcome address by Mr. Suraj Bhan, CEO of the Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission (HSRLM), who underscored the vital role women play in driving economic progress in India. Following this, a thematic panel discussion was moderated by Dr. C.S. Mohapatra, IEPF Chair Professor at NCAER. Dr. Mohapatra stressed the need for ongoing financial education, behavioral change, and trust-building to achieve inclusive financial growth.
Mr. S.K. Sharma, Senior Consultant at the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), discussed how mutual funds and systematic saving habits can significantly enhance women’s financial independence. Additionally, Dr. Rahul Raiya, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Assandh, highlighted the local administration’s role in facilitating SHGs’ access to financial services. Mr. Shailendra Nath Jha, a former Deputy General Manager at the Reserve Bank of India, addressed the importance of safe banking practices and robust grievance redressal systems to combat digital financial fraud.
Celebrating Achievements and Future Goals
The event concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, marking a significant milestone in IEPFA’s mission to cultivate financially literate citizens. This initiative not only aims to empower women but also seeks to create a community capable of making informed and secure financial decisions. The collaborative efforts of IEPFA, SEBI, AMFI, and HSRLM reflect a unified approach to enhancing financial literacy and inclusion in rural areas.
