Kusum Lata’s commitment to her son’s cricketing aspirations is truly inspiring. Seated in her wheelchair, she bowls to Arnav daily, adapting her techniques to enhance his practice. She studies professional bowlers on television and online, learning new variations and strategies to help Arnav improve. “When my child tells me to bowl in a certain way, I watch matches to improve myself,” she shares. This dedication reflects a deep bond between mother and son, as they work together to overcome obstacles. Arnav’s determination to succeed motivates Kusum to continually enhance her skills, ensuring that their training sessions are as effective as possible.
Climbing the Ranks in Cricket
Arnav’s talent has not gone unnoticed. Coaches at Nalanda Cricket Academy, Vikrant and Vivek Sharma, recognized his potential early on and provided him with the guidance he needed to excel. With the support of the Saharanpur Cricket Association, led by chairman Akram Saifi, Arnav has steadily progressed in his cricketing journey. His breakthrough moment came earlier this year when he played a crucial role in Uttar Pradesh’s victory in the Under-14 Raj Singh Dungarpur Trophy. Over five matches, he scored a total of 166 runs, with a personal best of 48 runs in a single game. This achievement not only marked a significant milestone in his career but also earned him recognition, as the entire UP Under-14 team was honored in Delhi by BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla.
Future Aspirations
Arnav’s aspirations extend beyond local tournaments. He dreams of representing India on the international stage, drawing inspiration from cricketing icons like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Posters of these players adorn his walls, serving as a constant reminder of his goals. “I want to play like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. I like their shots very much,” he expresses with determination. As he continues to train and improve, Arnav remains focused on his journey, supported by his mother and the cricketing community around him. With each practice session and match, he moves closer to realizing his dream, embodying the spirit of perseverance and dedication in the world of sports.
