The Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency has played a crucial role in promoting bamboo-based industries since its inception in 2004. With the GST rate on bamboo furniture and handicrafts reduced from 12% to 5%, prices are expected to drop by approximately 6.25%. Opportunities for Nagaland Coffee
The coffee industry in Nagaland is also experiencing a transformation due to the recent GST reforms. The tax on roasted coffee beans has been reduced from 12% to 5%, while the rate for coffee extracts has dropped from 18% to 5%. This sector, which includes nearly 2,200 registered coffee growers, is primarily driven by tribal smallholders and a growing number of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) involved in roasting and retailing. The reduction in GST is expected to lower overall costs by 6.25% to 11%, making Nagaland coffee more competitive in both domestic and international markets. The state has already established a niche for its coffee, exporting to countries such as South Africa, Germany, and Italy, which will likely expand with the new pricing structure.
