Greenfield Corridor to Enhance Connectivity to Jewar Airport

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light to a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity to Jewar International Airport. The project, with a revised total capital cost of Rs. 3630.77 crore, focuses on constructing a 31.42 km long Greenfield corridor linking the airport to the Delhi-Faridabad-Ballabhgarh-Sohna Spur of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway through Hybrid Annuity Mode.

This new corridor will serve as a vital transport route, providing swift and direct access from South Delhi, Faridabad, and Gurugram to Jewar International Airport. It is expected to enhance economic activity and improve logistics efficiency within the National Capital Region (NCR). With its completion, the corridor will not only facilitate smoother travel but will also promote growth in the region’s economy.

Infrastructure Highlights

The project will intersect with key transport infrastructures such as the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Yamuna Expressway, and the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), enabling multimodal transport options. The elevated highway promises to function as more than just a thoroughfare; it is set to be an essential catalyst for urban development and regional connectivity.

Dedicating about 11 km of the route as an elevated highway, this segment is designed to serve as a crucial link between the DND-Ballabhgarh Bypass and Jewar International Airport. It also aligns with the future infrastructure plans outlined in the Faridabad Master Plan, 2031, catering to areas designated for high-density urban development.

Financial Aspects and Government Support

The elevated corridor will incur an additional cost of Rs. 689.24 crore, with the Government of Haryana committing Rs. 450 crore towards its development. This financial backing underlines the state’s support for boosting regional connectivity and ensuring that the construction aligns with the strategic goals for urban growth.

As the Jewar International Airport prepares to become a major hub, this project stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing transport infrastructure and unlocking economic potential in the NCR. The transformative effects of this project are expected to resonate beyond immediate connectivity, ushering in a new era of robust urban development in the region.
