Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi notifies a Commission of Inquiry under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952

The Government of India headed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi notified a commission of inquiry under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, chaired by Justice Ajai Lamba, former Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court with Shri Himanshu Shekhar Das, IAS ( Retd.) and Shri Aloka Prabhakar, IPS (retired) as members to investigate the incidents of violence in Manipur state on 03.05.2023 and thereafter.

The Commission will carry out an investigation into the causes and spread of the violence, which took place in Manipur, and whether there have been any mistakes by any of the authorities or individuals responsible.

Union Home Affairs Minister and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah visited the state of Manipur from the 29th of May 2023 to 1st June 2023 and after taking stock of the situation, he announced the appointment of the Commission of Inquiry.

The Commission presents its report to the central Government as soon as possible and in any case no later than six months from the date of its first session. The seat of the Commission will be in Imphal.
