Government e-Marketplace Reaches New Milestone of ₹18.4 Lakh Crore in GMV

The Government e Marketplace (GeM) has marked a significant achievement in India’s digital public procurement landscape by attaining a cumulative Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of ₹18.4 lakh crore. Notably, the platform has also surpassed ₹5 lakh crore GMV in the fiscal year 2025–26, showcasing its evolution as a cornerstone of transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity in public spending.

This key milestone underscores GeM’s expanding role in facilitating large-scale procurements for various government entities. The platform not only aids procurement decisions but also bridges enterprises with government demands while promoting economic inclusivity, sustainability, and transparency.

In a statement to the media, Mihir Kumar, the CEO of Government e Marketplace, expressed that the cumulative GMV of ₹18.4 lakh crore stands as a testament to the trust placed in a transparent, technology-driven procurement ecosystem by buyers, sellers, and institutions alike.

Inclusive Approach for Small Enterprises

GeM has taken significant strides to foster an inclusive environment for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), women entrepreneurs, SC/ST enterprises, and startups. During the financial year 2025–26, MSEs executed 68 percent of total orders, contributing to 47.1 percent of overall GMV.

Currently, more than 11 lakh MSEs are registered on the GeM platform, collectively receiving over 51 lakh orders valued at ₹2.36 lakh crore this fiscal year, illustrating a remarkable growth exceeding 20 percent compared to the prior year. Additionally, over 2.1 lakh women-led MSEs registered on the portal have secured orders totaling more than ₹28,000 crore, indicating an impressive growth rate of approximately 28 percent. SC/ST MSEs have achieved orders worth over ₹6,000 crore, also reflecting a growth of around 28 percent. Startups have played an increasingly pivotal role as well, obtaining orders exceeding ₹19,000 crore, demonstrating over 36 percent growth.

Embracing Technology for Enhanced Operations

Technology plays an integral role in the functioning of GeM. The platform harnesses Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and advanced analytics to elevate transparency and efficiency in procurement processes. Key technology initiatives include ML-based catalog validation and pre-sanity checks to minimize errors, along with real-time analytics for transaction monitoring and anomaly detection.

Moreover, advanced analytical tools help to identify unusual pricing patterns, collusive bidding behavior, and potential buyer-seller collusion. System-backed tools, such as Bid Health Scores, further enhance decision-making and bolster confidence in the procurement framework.

Growing Participation from States and Union Territories

With strong adoption rates from Central Ministries, Departments, and Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), GeM is also observing a rising engagement from States and Union Territories. Procurement activities from states surged by an impressive 38.3 percent in the fiscal year 2025–26, highlighting their increased involvement and confidence in the platform’s capabilities.

The growing engagement from states emphasizes the effectiveness of GeM as a transparent, efficient, and accountable procurement system, leading to broader access and deeper integration of public procurement across the nation.
